I took a few steps in a certain direction
With each footfall, the ground became less level and safe
Prideful thoughts, hasty words
They are just as dangerous as careless steps near a cliff
A slippery slope awaits those who tread recklessly
Replaying those thoughts, those words in my mind
Repulsion fills my heart every time I consider the state of my mind then
Where was the grace? Where was the love?
Where was the compassion? Where was the wisdom?
I had linked arms with pride and skipped heartlessly towards the edge
Not even thinking about the danger of that slippery slope
Just like other times, pride pulled me right over the edge
A fall.
I would remain there, were it not for the two God-sends of Grace and Humility
His forgiveness and mercy dusted me off, and set me back on the good path.
“Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.” –Proverbs 16:18
We would be wise as a nation to ponder and respond to these words, but I was reminded this week that it must all start in my own heart!
Well done! “With each footfall…” can be in either direction. I’m glad you choose the Lord’s direction.

I am glad, too. I am glad He always is ready to take me back when I fall!
Beautiful!
Thank you! I’m glad it had a good ending!
